Following our recent March webinar, where our founder Richard Knight was joined with special guest Tom Davies from Haus Maids Bishop’s Stortford, they answered many questions from aspiring franchisees, we’ve compiled a list of the questions and a shortened answer for you to consume below. Q: Do you have the same cars for the business?

We primarily use Corsas for our fleet. They are reliable and cost-effective, which aligns with our business needs. While some franchises might opt for different cars, we’ve found Corsas to be a solid choice. Flexibility is key. While we stick with Corsas, it’s ultimately up to you to choose the vehicles that suit your business needs best.

Q: How do we know if we will need £4,000 or £10,000 working capital?

The required investment depends on your business plan and goals. If you’re willing to handle more cleaning jobs personally, you’ll need less for staff wages. We can guide you based on your desired level of involvement and help you estimate the necessary capital.

Q: Can I run my business from home?

Absolutely. All our franchisees start from home, saving on initial office expenses. It’s a cost-effective approach that allows flexibility and convenience, especially for parents with young children.

Q: What hourly rate do you charge?

We don’t charge by the hour; instead, we offer a set price for each home cleaning. This ensures transparency and consistency in pricing for our customers.

Q: Do you supply customers?

Customers are primarily acquired through our website, which generates leads through SEO and online marketing efforts. Additionally, local marketing and advertising contribute to acquiring new customers.

Q: Do the staff clean all the cloths, or do customers provide them?

Neither. You would handle the cleaning of all cloths used by your staff. It’s part of our service to ensure quality and hygiene standards are maintained consistently.

Q: Is there an upfront fee to join?

The upfront fee to join is £9,950.

Q: What’s the lowest amount I can start with?

You’ll need at least £9,950 to start, along with additional capital for operating expenses, typically ranging between £4,000 to £10,000. Full funding is available via our partners.

Q: How long does it take to get a franchise and start the business?

While it can vary, we recommend allowing at least three months from initial inquiry to starting your business. This ensures adequate time for training and preparation.

Q: Can I buy cleaning products from Costco?

While you can, we recommend using our supplier, who offers competitive prices and discounts for our franchisees. We prioritise quality and consistency in our product offerings.

Q: Do you have franchises in Aberdeen, Scotland?

Currently, we don’t have franchises in Scotland, but we are in talks with someone interested in taking on a franchise there, which would be our first in Scotland.

Q: Do staff need DBS checks if we hire them?

DBS checks are optional, but we recommend them. It’s essential to consider the time and cost involved in obtaining these checks.

Q: Do you do office cleans?

While office cleaning isn’t our primary focus, we sometimes take on office cleans for existing residential clients.

Q: Would my staff be self-employed?

No, we only employ staff, not self-employed individuals. Employing staff ensures better reliability and commitment to the job.

Q: If my wife took a franchise, can I do training on her behalf?

Training typically involves the franchisee, but we can discuss individual circumstances to determine the best approach.

Q: My wife and I work full-time; can we still take on a franchise?

Running a franchise requires full-time dedication, so it’s essential to prioritise it as your primary business venture.

Q: Do you provide staff?

We guide franchisees in recruiting staff, providing resources and support to help them find suitable candidates.

Q: Do you have company-owned offices or all franchised?

All our offices are franchised.

Q: Why do you not pay employees by the hour?

Our model is based on incentivising staff to provide excellent service rather than hourly wages, ensuring better motivation and quality of work.

Q: What type of advertising works best for finding customers?

Google ads and car signage have been particularly effective for us. Social media and leaflet drops also contribute to customer acquisition.

Q: Were there lots of cleaning companies in your area when you started?

There were several cleaning companies, but Haus Group’s unique approach and focus on employing staff set us apart from the competition.
